Tompkins County HHW Management D.E.P.O.T. Program

Every visitor must confirm Tompkins County residency by showing a driver's license and/or vehicle registration and must have a waste permit. Permits can be obtained by calling 273-4496. This site is located past the Recycling and Solid Waste Scale house. Each household may bring up to twenty five gallons of liquids and fifty pounds of solid materials per DEPOT visit. Wear protective clothing and gloves to avoid unnecessary skin exposures. Lay down plastic sheets under the areas in which hazardous containers will be handled. Keep all products in original, labeled containers and never mix chemicals together. Carefully place items including leaking, or rusty containers in newspaper and place inside a plastic bag or larger nonreturnable container with absorbent material, such as kitty litter. Please label unidentified products as "unknown". This site also accepts head lice shampoo, shoe dye, nail polish remover. carburetor cleaner, degreasing chemicals, enamel, light lubricating oil, automotive polish and wax, artist oils and acrylics, chemistry sets, gun cleaning solvents, and rubber cement thinner.
