They are heavy and will probably get dried needles all over your car, so we don't want you to waste your time when you're trying to do something good. Trees collected are recycled into mulch, which is made available free on a first-come, first-served basis to Austin residents on January 23. Residents should bring their own bags or equipment because Parks and Recreation Department staffers cannot assist with loading it.
