The DC area's largest thrift store for home improvement! Our nonprofit program accepts new and used building materials for the home & garden. You can drop off during business hours. Pickup service available for large donations (schedule a pickup at http://communityforklift.com/donation.cfm).

Donors receive a tax deduction, and proceeds are used to reduce waste, create jobs, and make repairs affordable for homeowners, small businesses, and nonprofits that repair substandard housing.

Carpet

Rolls of unused carpet accepted. Must have size marked on the outside of the roll. New and used carpet tiles and area rugs accepted, but must be clean and free of stains or odors.

Carpet Padding

Ceramic Tile

All home improvement items must be clean, usable, and in good working order. Please bring your leftover tile in sturdy boxes or containers.

Doors

All home improvement items must be clean, usable, and in good working order. If you have the keys, please securely attach to door. May not be able to accept some doors with flaking paint, or hollow-core doors with any damage.

Fertilizers

All home improvement and garden items must be clean, usable, and in good working order. Bags of soil, fertilizer, or sand must be sealed shut, with readable labels.

Freezers

All appliances must be clean, mold and odor free, and fully functioning with ALL hardware, parts, knobs and shelves. Door gaskets and seals must be in good working order.

Gypsum Drywall

All home improvement items must be clean, usable, and in good working order. We accept full sheets of drywall, and cannot accept used drywall.

Please securely attach matching hardware to keep it together (affix keys to doorknobs, put a set of cabinet knobs into a plastic bag, etc.)

Household Furniture

Kitchen cabinets are very much appreciated. Some antique and solid wood bookcases, hutches, and other furniture accepted.

Latex Paint

All home improvement items must be clean, usable, and in good working order. All paint should be in sealed cans with readable labels.

Lawnmowers

Light Fixtures

All plumbing fixtures, electrical fixtures, and home improvement items must be clean, usable, and in good working order. Ceiling fans must have mounting brackets securely attached.

All home improvement items must be clean, usable, and in good working order. Please mark sizes on the outside of rolls of flooring. Unable to accept used linoleum.

Lumber

All home improvement items must be clean, usable, and in good working order. Lumber and trim must be at least 5' long. Nails should be removed.

Roofing Materials

All home improvement items must be clean, usable, and in good working order. Usable granite counter scraps are accepted. Please call ahead if you are bringing pallets of stone or masonry.

Modern tools must be usable and in good working order. Commercial tools and vintage tools accepted on a case-by-case basis.

Washer/Dryers

All appliances must be clean, mold and odor free, and fully functioning with ALL hardware, parts, knobs and shelves. Door gaskets and seals must be in good working order.

Windows

Accept new or used insulated glass windows in good condition. Vinyl sashes MUST be in window frames, not loose. Able to accept most transoms, sidelights, and unusual vintage sashes. Unable to accept some single-pane old windows or some windows with flaking paint. Please call 301-985-5180 if you have questions.

Wood
