This site accepts chubby board books, children's picture books and easy readers/Step-into-Reading. Books are used for Open Door's Reach Out and Read Program, where volunteers read aloud with young patients and help them to select a book to bring home. The goal is to promote early litereacy and improve kindergarten readiness for children liviing in poverty.

Each year Open Door's volunteers and staff read to 3,000 children and provide over 6,000 books to families to promote reading at home.
